      • CCleaner - Free. Clean clutter, uninstall unneeded software, and more.
        • The OLD version (version 1.18.30 from October, 2020) is needed to use the Drive Wiper feature. which erases the free areas of your hard disk so that deleted files can never be recovered. Here is the DMG installer of that version, if needed.
      • CleanMyMac -- get rid of unneeded files and improve performance. Here's a good article about this program

      • Online Convert - Transforms a wide selection of file formats (documents, images, audio, video), and it doesn't require you to download or install any new software. Free.
      • Zamzar - free online file conversion site. Convert images, documents, music files, video files, and more from one format to another.

    • Fonts
      • Ecofont - Free font based on Bitstream Vera sans-serif containing little holes designed to reduce ink consumption when printing.

    • Microsoft Software
      • Microsoft Office for Mac - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Messenger, Outlook, and more.
      • Open XML File Format Converter - allows you to convert Open XML files that were created in Office 2008 for Mac or Office 2007 for Windows so that you can open, edit, and save them in earlier versions of Office for Mac.
      • Note that with MacOS 10.15 (Catalina), 32-bit versions of software will no longer run, such as Office 2011 and versions of Office 2016 prior to 15.25.
        • If you have Office 2011, you need to upgrade to Office 2016 version 15.25 or later, or Office 2019.
        • If you have a version of Office 2016 earlier that 15.25, you'll need to update it to 15.25 or later.
        • Although one could update to the subscription-based Office 365, which makes sure you always have the latest version, it's a bad value, as it's $70/year. Compare that to $100 or less, one time only, for Office 2016 or $123 for 2019.— both Home and Student editions.
        • Other choices are going with free office software — see the next section.

Available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.
      • WPS Office - Free productivity / office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and more. View, edit and create almost any document type – all fully compatible with Microsoft Office. And the best part, it's 100% FREE

      • GIMP - GNU Image Manipulation Program. Free image editor with many Photoshop-like tools. Can perform such tasks as photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring.. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc. For UNIX, Windows and Mac OS X.
      • GraphicConverter - Shareware. An all-purpose, graphic editing program that will open almost any graphic format, and in turn save to just about any format. Includes powerful image-editing tools.

        • CutePDF — Free PDF-related tools. Their Writer program allows you to create PDF files from any printable document. Their Web-based Editor program allows you to make changes to PDF documents.
        • DoPDF - Free PDF creator - creates a PDF document from any printable document.
        • PDF-XChange Lite - Free PDF creator in the form of a printer driver. For Windows XP, or newer. (A simplified version of their PDF-XChange Standard virtual PDF printer.
        • PDFlite - Free. Open-source and light-weight PDF Reader and Converter.
          Convert files to PDF like Word and JPG. Any program that can print, can convert to PDF. Be sure to decline the extra software they want to offer you during the install process.
        • PrimoPDF - Free. This program is a printer driver that creates PDF files from your documents, rather than printing them to paper. After install, whenever you choose the print option from an application, PrimoPDF will be listed along with your physical printers, print to file, etc. It's extremely easy to use and produces excellent PDFs--without the watermarks that some programs add.

          • Get Adobe Reader ‹ provides the latest version based on your operation system,

View PDFs, view thumbnails, search, view document indexes, print documents, and encrypted document viewing.
        • FoxIt PDF Reader - Free. Allows you to open, view, and print any PDF file.
        • SlimPDF - Free. For anyone looking to replace Adobe Reader with a lightning fast application that uses little in the way of resources. They also offer a plugin (not free) to enable the conversion of PDFs to .doc, .xls, and .ppt files.
        • Sumatra PDF - Free. This is a PDF, ePub, MOBI, CHM, XPS, DjVu, CBZ, CBR reader for Windows
